Description

With a primary focus on the Alumni Annual Fund, the Assistant Director of Alumni Annual Relations and Giving will play a key role in the continued expansion of the alumni fundraising programs.  The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and Giving will report to the Director of Alumni Relations and Giving to develop strategies and implement tactics that will successfully increase engagement and philanthropic support from key alumni constituencies.

Through personal solicitations and work with volunteers, this position will focus on identifying, cultivating, and building an alumni network to solicit alumni donors as well as to increase the overall participation rate of alumni who give to the school.  The position also includes further development and maintenance of an alumni mentor/networking program and working with alumni class officers for both the alumni Annual Fund and alumni class affairs.

Alumni Annual Fund (60%):

  • Works with the Director of Advancement and the Director of Alumni Relations and Giving to set goals and strategies for alumni participation in the Annual Fund including increasing alumni membership in the leadership giving society
  • Organizes and spearheads Alumni Annual Fund print and online solicitations, including timing and nature of appeals, writing copy, working with outside vendors as necessary to manage all aspects of the campaign
  • Maintains relationships with assigned Alumni Annual Fund class captains and works with them for optimal outreach to classmates for D-E events including major class reunions
  • Conducts personal solicitations to prospects when assigned
  • Works with Advancement team to identify alumni candidates for major gifts and planned giving cultivation
  • Manages stewardship of donors in concert with Alumni Director and the Director of Philanthropy
  • Co-manages with the Director of Student Activities and Community Service the current student fundraising council including review of fundraising proposals and assistance with event planning
  • Responsible for Alumni Annual Fund reporting for volunteers and staff working closely with Database Manager. This includes preparing quarterly Alumni Annual Fund performance and comparison reports for management review

Alumni Networking Program and Alumni Relations (40%):

  • Maintains relationships with assigned class representatives and works with them for outreach to classmates for D-E events including major class reunions
  • Responsible for preparing and reporting of agenda and  minutes for Alumni Relations Committee quarterly meetings
  • Responsible for maintenance and administration of the Alumni Career Mentorship program, working closely with the Director of Alumni Relations and Giving and the Upper School Principal
  • Helps manage Linkedin alumni group and page
  • Manages and updates Social Media applications for alumni relations and giving with consultation with the Communications and Advancement offices
  • Develops and maintains relationships with current and former “legacy” and “lifer” families
  • Works closely with the Senior class, the Dean of the senior class, and the Director of Student Activities and Community Service to prepare for “alumni-hood” while identifying future alumni class leaders
  • Assists Communications and Alumni Relations offices with all aspects of periodic alumni print and electronic communications including proofing
  • Assists with database maintenance for alumni changes and news
  • Supports the Advancement office for all events especially major Reunions


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 3-5 years of development experience, preferably in independent schools
  • Demonstrated skill in gift solicitation
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to represent the school to external constituents and work effectively with internal constituents.
  • Experience in planning and managing special events and alumni fundraising activities
  • Volunteer management experience including identification, training, and stewardship
  • Some evening and weekend work when required
  • Experience with Blackbaud RENXT and Microsoft Office is recommended
