Summary:
Working under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Development, School of Law, the Assistant Director of Development, School of Law works to implement cultivation strategies for, and direct solicitations to, prospects in support of the Law School’s development efforts. This position will provide development support of the annual fund, giving societies, major gifts ($25,000-$100,000), alumni events, and support board and council strategy/management.

Job Description

This Job Is For You If You Are Able To….

  • Cultivate and solicit prospects for annual fund (Law Fund) gifts, and five-year giving society commitments.
  • Co-manage the annual fund program and coordinate its components including matching gift campaigns, personal visits to prospects, strategy surrounding parent giving, reunions, alumni events, and student giving.
  • Manage a portfolio of 120 prospects and develop qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for said prospects.
  • Work with Communications and External Relations to develop thoughtful proposals for donors.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean of Development and Associate Director of Alumni Engagement in developing and implementing strategies designed to strengthen board and council engagement.
  • Coordinate events in key cities and regions with alumni volunteers to further the reach of the Law School alumni network.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

What Skills Do You Need?

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least three to five years related development and alumni engagement experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and proven history of gaining philanthropic support and financial commitments from others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate sound judgment and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google apps, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to research, collect, and analyze data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of the University policies and procedures, or ability to acquire knowledge in a short period.
  • Ability to be a team player and willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally as necessary.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and cooperation in a work environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in prioritizing workflow and managing resources.
  • Experience in database management and maintenance.
  • Skill in fiscal management.
  • Detail-orientation in coordinating activities.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Should be able to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance policy.

Desired Skills and Abilities: As the incoming Assistant Director of Development, School of Law, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a non-profit or academic environment with evidence of specific skills, especially writing, event planning/coordination, organizational, volunteer management and customer service orientation relevant to the position.
  • Possesses an understanding of the donor cycle.
  • Some experience in sales and marketing, or public relations preferred.
