Description

To lead and oversee the development and delivery of an annual strategic marketing and communications plan for Alumni & Supporter engagement and fundraising priorities – in accordance with the mission, objectives and values of the department, and the strategic aims of the University, developing mutually beneficial relationships with our global Alumni and Supporter community.

Requirements

The Head of Alumni and Supporter Communications is a brand new, exciting role in our expanding team. Managing a team of four communications professionals and reporting directly to the Associate Director for Alumni & Supporter Engagement, you will have responsibility for developing, growing and leading the University of Southampton’s annual alumni and supporter communications strategy and programme - for our 265k+ global community. With oversight of our targeting, content generation, platform/channel selection and management, your role will ensure our community remain connected to the University, as proud brand advocates that support our life-changing causes, and further our world class reputation. Strategic marketing and communications are the lifeblood of our philanthropic appeals, and you and your team will lead on the development of fund propositions, transformational content, and an annual communications plan to support Major Gift fundraising. You will join at a pinnacle time as we are planning our biggest ever £100m Fundraising & Engagement Campaign, and you will lead on the branding and creative development of this ground-breaking project.

Full of creativity and drive, you will be an experienced senior marketing and communications professional with a passion for making a difference. Audience and data centred, you will have successfully led brand development and marketing communications campaigns, ideally (but not essentially) in the charity or the higher education sectors, with a proven track record for hitting targets. Adept at prioritising and juggling multi-faceted projects, you will also have excellent line and stakeholder management skills, able to positively influence senior members of the department and develop and motivate a team. Having worked across multiple communications channels, you will be experienced in developing annual content plans with excellent digital knowledge and skills – bringing expertise and guidance to the team, able to lead on the development of a new alumni and supporter website. You will be at home managing creative agencies, and will be excited at the prospect of driving the creative development of our new £100m fundraising and engagement campaign.

This role is based at our Highfield campus, although most of the team work on a hybrid basis so your time can be split between working remotely from home and catching up with colleagues on campus.
