Company Profile

Company Overview

MGH Institute of Health Professions is a graduate school located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard along Boston’s waterfront. It was founded by the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1977 to create a unique environment for interprofessional health professions education.

The MGH Institute is composed of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, which includes the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Department of Physical Therapy; the School of Nursing; and the Center for Interprofessional Studies and Innovation, which offers a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, a Master of Science in Health Professions Education, as well as other certificates and courses.

The MGH Institute, which is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), has doubled during the past nine years and now has more than 1,200 full- and part-time students. New degrees have been added, and existing programs have been expanded, to meet rising demand for highly educated health care professionals.

The MGH Institute boasts more than 100,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classroom and laboratory space. The school’s assessment and clinical skills laboratories are equipped to provide contemporary practice for its students, and several simulation laboratories are available for teaching and assessment activities.

The Institute offers pro-bono rehabilitation centers in speech, literacy and language, aphasia, and physical therapy where students receive real world experiences with clients from the surrounding communities.
