About Northwestern Michigan College
Innovation has been a hallmark of Northwestern Michigan College since it was founded as Michigan’s first community college 60 years ago. We offer the 50,000 learners who come to us annually:
• Five associate degrees, dozens of professional certificates and transfer education in more than 50 programs. Half of NMC students enroll intending to transfer.
• Access to baccalaureate and graduate degrees through nine University Center partners
• A extensive non-credit Extended Education program for learners ages 8 to 80
• Customized business training opportunities through the Training & Research division
• Visual and performing arts events unparalleled in the region
Highlights of our five diverse campuses include:
Main campus: Dennos Museum Center, the region’s leading cultural and performing arts facility; Osterlin Library; WNMC public radio, and student housing.
Great Lakes Campus: Located on West Grand Traverse Bay, this newest campus is home to the Great Lakes Culinary Institute and Lobdell’s Teaching Restaurant; the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, the nation’s only freshwater maritime academy; the Hagerty Conference Center and the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute, offering the nation’s first associate degree in Freshwater Studies.
University Center campus: Distinctive for its wind tower, the UC is home base for Extended Education as well as nine partner four-year schools offering 50 bachelor’s-completion and advanced degrees in business, education and health and human services.
Aero Park campus: Like the UC, Aero Park features working alternative energy systems, including wind and solar. A wide range of technical programs call this campus home, including Aviation, Automotive Technology and Renewable Energy Technology.
Rogers Observatory: The only public observatory in northern Michigan.
NMC is located in Traverse City, the hub of the five-county Grand Traverse region. The area is historically known for its quality of life, four-season recreation opportunities and beautiful natural environment. More recently it has become known for its thriving local food and wine scene.
