Company Overview

The University of Montana Foundation’s mission is to increase philanthropic support to ensure the University of Montana’s excellence, access and affordability, focusing fundraising activity on the priorities set by the University and building and maintaining relationships with alumni and friends who donate to UM. We also manage an endowment. Earnings from the endowment provide ongoing support for the University.

The Foundation is an independent non-profit organization with a Board of Trustees. The Trustees and staff work with University leaders to set fundraising priorities which support the University’s strategic plan.

In fiscal year 2015, private support for the University of Montana totaled $52.6 million. Of that, $46 million came from gifts through the UM Foundation. An additional $6.6 million came through private grants to UM. Learn more about the Foundation's support of UM by viewing the 2015 Impact Report.

Company History

The University of Montana is a public flagship university located in Missoula. Founded in 1893 and enrolling more than 14,000 students, UM offers superior education ranging from associate to doctoral degrees. The University’s internationally recognized programs, commitment to student success and innovative learning environment attract faculty and students from around the world.

The University of Montana Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) organization established in 1951 to ensure the University’s excellence, access and affordability through a public/private funding partnership.
