Viterbo University is a Catholic, Franciscan, liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3200 students. The mission of the Viterbo University community is to prepare students for faithful service and ethical leadership. Viterbo is located in scenic La Crosse, Wisconsin, which has been rated as one of the top places to live in the US. Our location is often referred to as "God's Country" by those familiar with it. The region features an attractive cost of living, beautiful bluffs and coulees, three major rivers including the Mississippi River, outstanding health care and education systems, and easy access to major cities in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.

Historical Milestones
1890 – Founded as St. Rose Normal School by the FSPA
1937 – Renamed Viterbo College
1943 – Lay women are first admitted
1971 – Men are admitted
1987 – Graduate programs are introduced
1999 – D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership is established
2000 – Viterbo acquires university status
2013 – First doctorate program is introduced: Doctor of Nursing Practice
