Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations, Architecture, Arts, & Design
The Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations serves as the chief engagement officer in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. This position is primarily responsible for providing leadership, stewardship, and guidance for the college’s engagement efforts with alumni, donors, and friends to increase constituent engagement and philanthropic support for the college.
Additionally, the director will collaborate with college and university colleagues to further Virginia Tech’s overall engagement and institutional advancement goals and objectives.
The director is responsible for planning, promoting, executing, and evaluating alumni engagement programs, projects, and events for the college. In collaboration with the college’s Director of Marketing and Communications, the director strategizes and implements targeted alumni communication efforts for the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design.
In collaboration with the Dean, the Assistant Dean for Advancement, and school directors, the Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations provides leadership, stewardship, and logistical support for all college and school advisory boards and committees. This work may include the identification of potential board members; organizing retreats, meetings, and trainings; and guiding communications specific to this constituency with a focus on diversifying membership.
The director will be a key contributor to the college’s fundraising efforts and will actively identify, engage, and cultivate constituents who have the capacity and inclination for philanthropic support.
The Director of Alumni & Constituent Relations reports to the Assistant Dean for Advancement in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s or professional degree in a related field, or a Bachelor’s degree with substantial related experience comparable to an advanced degree.
- Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement, and build constituency programs and activities that increase engagement levels.
- Evidence of the ability to cultivate positive and productive relationships with people from a range of backgrounds and differing perspectives.
- Strong computer skills, including desktop publishing experience and a general knowledge of customer relationship management software.
- Evidence of the ability to analyze available data to help strategize best outcomes for engagement efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education, independent school, or non-profit environment.
- Demonstrated experience in alumni engagement and/or client-relations.
- Demonstrated experience cultivating, managing, and training volunteers and developing volunteer leadership.
